Over the past three days, at least five professional NASCAR drivers have come forward, citing situations during the 2020 racing season where they were intimidated or threatened by fans, other teams, or other, unknown parties. The FBI’s newly-created NASCAR Investigation Task Force has worked diligently with NASCAR owners, teams, and management to handle the ongoing investigations.
The FBI is investigating the “target” imagery, which allegedly has ties to Minneapolis, a city with substantial recent tensions.
A summary of the allegations from this round of complaints are as follows:
Brad Keselowski : Received a note during a recent qualifying event saying “Go for the pole!” which he believe is directed at his heritage. Also claims a popular, disparaging acronym for FORD was directed at him personally via social media.
Reed Sorenson : Alleges that multiple fans have sent him pictures with large, red targets painted on his car and/or his racing suit. Mr. Sorenson believes these actions constitute an assassination threat.
BJ McLeod
: Found a large sword in his locker with a note saying “There can be only one.” Similar to Mr. Sorenson, Mr. McLeod claims he now fears for his life, as well as the lives of his family and clan.
Kyle Larson
: Found a note on his personal vehicle expressing that the writer “Hopes
[Larson] has good luck in midget racing!” Mr. Larson believes this is a reference to his relatively modest stature and thinks the writer is “probably just some stupid [redacted].”
Jimmie Johnson
: Claims he has received countless phallic intimidation jokes via email and Twitter, causing him unexpected and intense mental pain and anguish.
These drivers hope their willingness to share their experiences will encourage others to come forward. To help accomplish this goal, the drivers have created an informal group under the hashtag #JustSoManyVictims in the hopes that at least 80% of all fellow human beings can find something to be upset about, whether the actions were intentional or coincidental.
“It’s only when we admit that we’ve tolerated these slights for so many years that the healing can begin,” star driver Jimmie Johnson shared in a press release. “We know the road will be very long, and very hard, but we’re going to push until this issue reaches deep into America’s gut.”

Thank goodness Dick Trickle isn’t around anymore.
Fun fact: he’s the only driver to be fined for smoking in the car.

I waffled at first — it’s just a jab at the victim mentality ( especially white men). The freak out this past week was totally justified, but had it not been determined to be a weird coincidence, the post would have never been created. But since it turned out the way it did, there comes a point where we have to laugh a little.
Plus dick jokes never get old.

So now we are satirizing the concept of hate crimes and racial intimidation? Tell me, did Animal Farm mock the victims of Bolshevism or did it use satire and irony to point out the flaws of a system of power ?

What if the three-legged dog at the adjacent farm starting screaming about why he wasn’t included? That’s the world I inhabit.
If I could talk to Orwell about a sequel, that’s where we’d start.

Alright,
seeing as people want to treat this as a more serious event then
I’ll suggest something serious:
It’s time to stop brushing aside claims ‘
Oh well, it was a hoax’
. If we
’re going to full fledged intolerant on all racist symbols then we as a society
perhaps we
shouldn’t tolerate ‘boy who cried wolf scenarios’ either. Perhaps those need to be punishable as well.
There’s no 2 ways about this and this is the result of not prosecuting that idiot Smollett
for his stunt
.
You have the right to disagree , but I’ll give you an example:
This man lost his job because of a trial by media for something he didn’t even realize he was doing. He make a hand gesture based on some white power symbol scheme 4chan cooked up for a laugh and the BLM took to heart. The man isn’t even C aucasian, he’s Latino American.
And yes, I think it was the Nascar incident was ridiculous because it was obviously and purposely presented by the media in a matter that intent was conclusive. The way it was report was than there was a freshly tied hangman’s knot placed prominently in the garage.
One doesn’t just see an old used rope hanging from the door pull and attribute it to the changes to Nascar of the recent past. It’s an unfortunate coincidence that the team was placed in that particular garage but it’s something that could have been fully investigated without the Nascar President, FBI, and media involvement and jumping the gun. It reeks of drummed up spectacle after presented facts which actually reduces claim validity of hate crimes and is debatable as being counter productive.

Wether it was a weird coincidence or not (why aren’t they sharing pictures of the ‘garage door pull’?), somebody was genuinely concerned for their life over this. I personally would be very reluctant to joke about that.

That’s fair — that’s why I danced around the real incident (not even citing) but instead tried to imagine a ridiculous parade of me-too complaints that sort of reflect how everyone is in a highly sensitive place right now.
Side note: I’m also curious about the lack of photo evidence. I can empathize with Bubba for his reaction, but I still think it was just a pull cord tied by some track volunteer kid 6 months ago with no ill intent. NASCAR’s got plenty of deeper problems to deal with, I just don’t think this specific incident is one of them (as much as some fans probably think “I wish I had thought of that!”). The collective media circus over this was a force to be reckoned with.

Now that you’ve had some time to collect your thoughts , I hope you can consider another perspective.
Despite the treatment of black people being the issue that protesters want addressed, it never takes long for white men to co-op society’s new attitude to effecting positive change.
As a non-white, B lack Lives Matter is the real issue here, yet Caucasians will scream loudly about All Lives Matter or Blue Lives Matter. Children of African Americans are tormented at school by racist children, yet the change that comes now is to address general bullying at schools, among whites and blacks.
To me, this post effectively pokes at how the concerns of Caucasians are, at best, trivial, compared to the concerns of African Americans, yet Caucasians scream loudly enough to be heard on white-dominated forms of media.
It should be both possible to understand and support Bubba Wallace and not downplay the seriousness of racial crimes that African Americans face, and to satirize white Americans for how insignificant their issues often are in comparison.
I hope you can also consider the above and we can have level discussion. Thanks!
tl;dr rather than downplaying the fact that African Americans are the victims of hate crimes, Ash pushes the idea that Caucasians can make any push for change about them instead of the actual victims.

I would consider your perspective if it wasn’t for all the “it was just a garage door pull” excuses and victim blaming I am seeing. To me this post not only perpetuates that Wallace incorrectly got offended by something trivial , but that he was the one to report it.
Also, Ash has edited this from it’s original form. You are not reading the same post I did yesterday.
